Information for Match Managers of home and away club matches
Introduction
The usual format is 5 singles matches. However, this can be
varied to suit the visiting and home team; a team may prefer
to field 4 players, each to play a singles match followed
by a doubles in order to make the journey worthwhile. Others
may have players who would like to play only doubles.
The convention is that the visiting team nominates players
and the home team tries to match their handicaps.
Unless otherwise agreed, club matches at Cambridge take
place in the morning from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm on the Green
Court and from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm on the Blue Court. This
is based on 5 singles matches with the third set starting
at 3-all; if the club match has a different format (see above)
then there may be the need to book an extra court or two.
The pros will be able to help.
Forming a team
Sign-up sheets will be put up on the club noticeboard well
in advance of every home and away club match.
Home matches
The opposition usually contacts the match manager 7 –
14 days in advance of their visit to advise of team details.
The match managers should use as many players who have signed-up
as possible. The pros and fixtures secretary will be more
than happy to help set-up matches and find further players
if needed.
Away matches
Please contact the opposition with our team details (names,
handicaps, preferences to play singles and/or doubles) 7 –
14 days in advance. The pros and fixtures secretary will be
able to assist this process.
Match programme for home matches
The match manager should type or write out an order of play
to put up on the club notice board.
Costs
Court & marking fees
Please advice all players of following charges in advance:
£13 per player for a doubles match
(incl. court, marking fees and
lunch)
£20 per player for a singles match
(incl. court, marking fees and
lunch)
Summer season ticket holders do not pay court fees. Following
charges apply for these players from April to September:
£7 per player for a doubles match
(incl. marking fees and lunch)
£14 per player for a singles match
(incl. marking fees and lunch)
The match manager is responsible for collecting court and
marking fees from all players in cash, which should be passed
on to the professionals.
Lunch
For home matches match managers are expected to provide lunch
at £6 per player. The pros (1 – 2) have lunch
free of charge. The cost of lunch (£6) will only be
subtracted from the court & marking fees if a player was
recruited within 48 hours of the match.
Alcoholic drinks
The cost of lunch (£6) includes a single glass of wine
per player. This can be provided by the match manager or obtained
from the store behind the Green Court grille. The pros will
be able to provide access this room.
£5.00 Bottle of wine (only sold as bottle)
£0.50 Bottle of Beck’s beer
The match manager needs to collect the money (cash or cheque)
and leave it either with the pros or in an envelope in the
pros’ room for the attention of Duncan Colquhoun.
Soft drinks
Soft drinks will have to be provided by the match manager.
Coffee (instant and filter) will be provided by the club free
of charge.
Away matches
The cost of an away match varies between clubs. It is worth
enquiring about this before the match day.
Cleaning up after home matches
It is the responsibility of the match manager to clear away
and wash the crockery, pots, etc and to leave the clubroom
tidy. Other team members should help.
Recording the results
For home matches, the match manager should record the results
on the programme and pass these on to the pros. The match
manager should arrange for someone to make a few notes and
if possible take a digital photograph or two for a write-up
on the CURTC website.
